Linux Use and Administration
Course Overview and Objectives
Linux Use and Administration is designed to bring system administrators, developers, and users up to speed in a Linux environment. Through the duration of the course, students will have instruction and hands-on lab experience in learning and using the Linux Operating System. Upon completion of the course, students will have the knowledge in Linux installations and configurations, philosophy and operation, software, and system and network administration understanding and concepts.
Instructional Approach
This course will be taught in a classroom with one computer
per student. The emphasis will be on hands-on use of the Linux system, with roughly one
half of the total time being spent on labs and exercises. A current Linux
distribution will be used with the KDE and GNOME desktop environments.
The class is divided into 34 total sessions, consisting of
lecture and lab. The lectures are intended to be interactive and will include review
of the lab assignments. The sessions range from 0.5 hours to 4 hours, and are presented
over a period of 5 days.
Prerequisites
